Udawalawe National Park

Udawalawe National Park is a national park located in Southern Sri Lanka. Its name comes from the big reservoir of Uda Walawe built in the 60’s on the Walawe’s river. The lake plays a significant role for the wildlife as the elephants and other species come there to drink and refresh themselves.

It is known to be one of the most famous national park in Sri Lanka. Located only 80 km from Yala, it benefits from the same animal species than it, as for instance numerous birds, buffalos, elephants of course and the famous leopard. However, it is less touristic, which is the real advantage of this park.

Their territory is spread on 30000 hectares land, sometimes arid sometimes very fertile. The landscapes therefore are wonderful, passing from an arid and rocky plain to the big water reservoir where the mountains from the center of Sri Lanka can already be seen.

We can find all kind of accommodations in Udawalawe. But what best to try the camping under the stars?
